What is the Songkok Rating System?
The Songkok Rating System is our unique method of categorising destinations and ensuring they are Muslim-friendly. Designed to help travelers make informed choices with ease and confidence, this system evaluates various aspects of a travel experience, from meal options to accommodation, so you can enjoy your journey knowing your needs are being met.
Why “Songkok”?
The choice of “songkok” for our rating system is intentional and meaningful. A songkok is a traditional headwear that symbolizes respect and tradition within many Muslim cultures. Its use in our rating system is not just visually distinctive but also culturally resonant, adding an engaging and memorable layer to your travel experience.
The Elements of the Songkok Rating
Our Songkok Rating System is divided into five categories, each represented by a star. Here’s what each star in the system represents:
1-Star Songkok: Muslim-Friendly Meals*
Tours provide halal or Muslim-friendly meals. If these options are unavailable, seafood or vegetarian alternatives will be offered to ensure that dietary needs are respected.
2-Star Songkok: Observed Prayer Time*
Tours include observed prayer timings, and the tour leader or guide will provide advice on prayer times throughout the journey.
3-Star Songkok: Islamic Site Visits / Mosque Visits*
Tours include visits to significant Islamic sites or mosques, such as the Hagia Sophia or Imam Bukhari Mausoleum, providing opportunities to explore Islamic heritage and history.
4-Star Songkok: Muslim/Muslim-Majority Country*
Tours in this category visit countries that are either predominantly Muslim, like Brunei, or have a significant Muslim population, like Turkiye, ensuring a cultural environment familiar to Muslim travelers.
5-Star Songkok: Muslim-Friendly Hotel*
Hotels in this category offer a range of Muslim-friendly amenities, such as bidets or qibla directions in rooms, and provide additional amenities like prayer mats or Qurans upon request. Halal breakfast options can also be arranged, subject to availability.
